In Brief: Nokia in NTT DoCoMo data service deal

June 27, 2006

Nokia said it is providing muscle behind Japanese telecom giant NTT DoCoMo's data-storage service.

The Finnish mobile group said DoCoMo is using its Intellisync SyncML server to power a data-storage service for customers purchasing the DoCoMo 902is series or any other third-generation phone after that. The service allows customers to back up, edit and restore their phone address book, e-mails and pictures online even if their handsets are lost or broken.

"This is a great example of Nokia's ability to connect practically any device over almost any network to most applications or data sources, and we're excited to be able to help DoCoMo deliver this for their customers," Masanari Arai, vice president of Japan operations of the enterprise solutions group at Nokia, said in a news release.
