Firms debut 100 Mbps broadband in Japan

An industry consortium in Japan has unveiled technology capable of providing home broadband speed up to 100 megabits per second over existing cable.

The c.LINK access modem technology will be deployed by Jupiter Telecommunications and its partners in Jupiter's Japanese market of some 2 million subscribers, Vnunet.com reported Friday.

The technology is focused on modems by Panasonic that are equipped with the c.LINK chipset. The modem receives data over fiber-optic cable and passes it through coaxial networks so that entire apartment buildings can be easily wired for the sizzling speeds and the "triple-play" video, data and voice services they will carry.
