In Brief: Sri Lanka to release wireless spectrum

Sri Lanka will be releasing new wireless spectrum for commercial use, although only with the blessings of the Ministry of Defense.

The Media Ministry said Thursday that the government had agreed to clear space in the 450 megahertz, 800-900 MHz and 1,800 MHz as well as the 2 gigahertz radio frequency.

The move is expected to both increase the wireless phone market and make it easier to standardize wireless equipment, Lanka Business Online reported.
