Mom says no big deal having twins at 59

Lauren Cohen, who turns 60 on Aug. 11, used in vitro fertilization and gave birth by Caesarean section to a girl and boy six weeks premature in New York on May 22.

Despite having numerous complications, she told the Bergen (N.J) Record she considered the twins and a daughter, born 18 months earlier also by in vitro, "a miracle."

However, she said other women considering late pregnancies should be in similar circumstances as she is before trying the same.

Cohen is a lawyer who works from home in Paramus, N.J., and is married to Frank Garcia, who is about 20 years younger than she is. He refuses to give his age, the report said.

"I don't think it's right to have a baby when you're close to 60 unless you're in an unusual situation like mine where you have a younger spouse who you can feel fully confident will be an involved parent," she said.

Cohen is believed to be the oldest woman in the world to have given birth to twins, the report said.
