Ruckus improves access to metro WiFi nets

Ruckus Wireless is taking steps to make it easier to connect to citywide WiFi services.
The Silicon Valley company's MetroFlex system is billed as overcoming connectivity issues between home wireless broadband and growing numbers of citywide WiFi networks.
"Reliably connecting to metro-scale WiFi networks from home, using conventional technology that transmits signals in all directions, can be difficult for consumers and carriers," Ruckus said in a news release Monday. "Problems include inadequate range, performance fluctuations, unstable wireless connectivity and broadband performance degradation due to interference."
MetroFlex, which was developed in a partnership with Tropos Networks, uses a self-adjusting antenna array to constantly keep the signal acquisition strong and true.
The product will be available commercially in January.
