Second face transplant occurs in China
Doctors in China reportedly have completed what is thought to be the world's second face transplant.
The surgery, which corrected the patient's lips and eye, took place at Xijing Hospital in Xi'an, the London Telegraph said Friday. In the initial operation in April, Li Guoxing was given a new cheek, upper lip, nose and eyebrow.
Chinese surgeons said Li's eye might not be fully functional because of the extent of injuries he received when mauled by a bear, the Telegraph said. Li's arms and legs also were injured in the attack.
In 2005, Isabelle Dinoire of France became the first person to receive a face transplant.
