Government video expo to show cutting edge

For three days, from Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, the Washington, DC Convention Center and the Federal Government are going to be treated with a display of the latest and greatest tools for digital signage, collaborative conferencing, camera technology and more at the Eighth Annual Government Video Expo. The purpose of the expo is for industry experts to get together and showcase the latest and greatest in video technology and its application to Federal and local government.

This is a $9.4 billion market that companies are trying to enter. On hand for the conference are more than 300 exhibitors including top tier companies like Avid, Sony, Adobe, Panasonic and Apple. There will be product managers on hand to demo the latest in video technology gear.

The conference keynote will be delivered on Nov. 30, by Mike Fergus of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and President of the Law Enforcement Video Association (LEVA). Among the various items on display at the expo will be high-tech surveillance devices used in actual patrol cars, Hummers and helicopters.

The Digital Signage Zone, sponsored by ActiveLight will showcase the latest developments in wayfinding and directional signage. The Collaborative Conferencing Solutions Center will offer hands-on exhibits of video, audio and data/Web conferencing solutions. Other highlights of the show will be conference sessions on how video is being used for security, forensics, evidentiary gathering and surveillance had been given much attention due recent world events.

Admission to the conference includes attendance to various sessions; this year's line up is divided into five tracks over a two day period. Day One Tracks include: Streaming/Workflow, Understanding AV/IT Systems, Production, Case Studies and New Technology, and one for Presentations and Keynote Speakers. Some of the notable sessions include: a Streaming Media Super Session, Collaborative Conferencing and Homeland Security, a meet and greet with government video producers, a look at Sony's next generation of HD Camcorders and more.

Day Two the tracks include -- Managing Assets and Technology, as well as a Law Enforcement Track, some of the noteworthy 2nd day sessions are: Managing Video for Homeland Security, Lighting Problems and Solutions, and Video And Audio Processing for Field Operatives.

The Third Annual Digital Media DC Conference will be held as part of this year's Government Video Expo. This conference is more of an all day workshop geared towards a broader spectrum of folks who actually use the gear, not just Government Videographers so there will be less Government speak here. Sessions include: The Essential Production Toolkit, How to Use 3D Motion Control, How to Use Green Screen Technology, and a tutorial on how to Trim Like A Pro. The three tracks are divided into people who want to learn how to use After Effects, Avid, and general Production Techniques. Also part of the DMDC event are full two day training and certification tracks for Apple's Final Cut Pro 5 and Apple Motion Certification.
