Briefs: France Telecom, ZTE in research deal
France Telecom and ZTE said Tuesday they will work together to research and develop the telecommunications industry.
The French group will be working together with the Chinese telecommunications-equipment manufacturer initially to apply the Linux operating system for third-generation technology smartphone handsets, the companies said.
The announcement comes ahead of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's visit to France, and France Telecom stated in a news release that "this partnership will capitalize on France Telecom's presence in China, and more specifically its R&D laboratory in Beijing, where the group's local teams are able to analyze the specific features of the Asian market and anticipate future developments in the global telecommunications sector."
