Telenor satellite broadband operational

Telenor Satellite Services global broadband is up and running across much of the world, the company reported Wednesday.

The company's Broadband Global Area Network Service is provided in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, with the Americas scheduled to come online in the second quarter of 2006.

The service includes simultaneous voice and broadband data capabilities at rates up to 256 kilobits per second and is the result of a five-year collaboration between Telenor and satellite operator Inmarsat.

Telenor's BGAN Point of Presence is in Norway and connected to Inmarsat satellite access through high-capacity leased lines.
