Briefs: Yahoo! launches upgraded Widget

December 12, 2005

Yahoo! launched Monday an updated version of its Widget Engine.

The Widget Engine 3.0 program is a cross-platform engine for mini desktop applications that allows users to complete numerous tasks, including checking for WiFi presence, finding contacts in an address book and updating a calendar, Yahoo! said.

"Yahoo! Widgets allow consumers to always have the information and content they want close at hand and is just one example of the ways we're able to make Yahoo!'s services and content available to users when, where and how they want," Jerrell Jimerson, vice president of connected life products, said in a news release.
