ISS crew prepares for spacewalk
February 21, 2007Members of the International Space Station crew have successfully conducted a series of tests in preparation for their historic Thursday spacewalk.
The spacewalkers Tuesday conducted leak checks, communications and system tests, and installed lights and additional equipment on their Russian Orlan space suits. ISS Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria and Flight Engineer Mikhail Tyurin will be making their mission's fifth spacewalk -- a record for station crews.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration mission controllers in Houston said the two astronauts will attempt to free a stuck antenna on the ISS Progress 23 cargo spacecraft docked at the aft end of the Zvezda service module. They will also check on navigation systems in preparation for the summer docking of a European cargo craft known as the Automated Transfer Vehicle.
