Briefs: U.S. HDTV ownership could hit 26 percent

A survey released Tuesday concluded that a quarter of households in the United States will possess a high-definition television by the end of 2006.
The poll of 1,061 U.S. adults found that 26 percent either already owned an HDTV set or planned to add one to their home during the coming year compared to 15 percent in 2005.
The Consumer Electronics Association said the upswing was due to increasing public awareness of HDTV's quality along with falling retail prices.
The statistics also showed men and women divided over who should decide if a family should make such a purchase. In addition, men tended to favor screens more than 51 inches in size, while women leaned more toward the smaller models.
