Briefs: Internet TV to debut in Shanghai late Feb.

Internet Protocol television will be offered to a limited number of homes in Shanghai starting in late February.

Siemens said Wednesday that Shanghai Telecom and Shanghai Media Group will offer IPTV using its SURPASS Home Entertainment solution to 5,000 households in the market that could top 4 million in a few years.

The service will be available over DSL and will offer a full raft of services, including Internet access, video on demand and online sports betting.

Siemens said the system had been successfully tested in Shanghai and was slated for initial deployment in the borough of Pudong.
