Charges in Silicon Valley secrets theft
December 23, 2005A former Netgear engineer was charged Thursday with stealing trade secrets from his former company and distributing them to colleagues at his new job.
Suibin Zhang, 37, of San Jose, Calif., was indicted by a federal grand jury on nine counts, including computer fraud, unauthorized copying of trade secrets and theft.
Zhang pleaded innocent Thursday and was released on bond pending trial.
Federal prosecutors said Zhang was a product development manager at Netgear until last spring when he took a job at Broadcom. After putting in his notice, Zhang allegedly downloaded sensitive product information from Marvell Semiconductor, a customer of Netgear.
The indictment alleged that Zhang then distributed the data that included Marvell trade secrets to Broadcom employees.
