Guilty plea in 2003 eBay 'bot' attack
December 28, 2005An Oregon man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges he took part in a cyber attack on the eBay auction site in 2003.
Anthony Clark, 21, of Beaverton, Ore., entered his plea in San Jose federal court to a charge of intentionally damaging a protected computer and will be sentenced in April.
Clark was charged in connection with a "denial of service" attack launched against eBay in the summer of 2003 using an arsenal of hijacked computers known as bots. The hijackings were carried out through a worm virus that took advantage of a weakness in Windows.
The U.S. Attorney's office said the virus allowed Clark and his accomplices to control some 20,000 bots that were able to bog down the performance of the popular Internet auction site during July and August of 2003.
