Scientists Snatch Falcon Eggs on Bridge
George the peregrine falcon watches as scientists remove eggs laid by Gracie, George's mate, Friday, March 30, 2007, underneath the lower deck of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco. Two peregrine falcons nesting on the bridge had their eggs taken from them Friday by biologists with University California, Santa Cruz's Predatory Bird Research Group who said the fledglings would not survive if they hatched on the precarious perch. Researchers said the baby birds would either drown or get run over when they attempted their first flight from the site on the bridge's central anchorage where the parents chose to lay the eggs. The biologists plan to incubate the eggs and raise the baby falcons until they are ready to return to the wild. (AP Photo/Ben Margot)
