Briefs: India's BSNL extends free broadband trial

December 30th, 2005

India telecom major BSNL has extended its deadline for signing up for a free two-month trial of its broadband service until the end of January.

The offer was made available this fall to all Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. landline customers and could stoke India's effort to encourage adoption of broadband service.

The offer includes installation of the broadband connection in the customer's home. Once broadband is up and running, BSNL executives expect consumers will become hooked and abandon their dial-up plans.

"We are very sure that customers will continue the connection or opt for a suitable BSNL connection only as per their requirement after the trial period is over,'' said BSNL Ludhiana General Manager G.S. Julka.
