BEA Systems Rolls Out WebLogic Server 10

April 3rd, 2007

BEA Systems Inc. has announced the general availability of WebLogic Server 10, the latest release of its application server.

BEA Systems Inc. has announced the general availability of WebLogic Server 10, the latest release of its application server, which is compatible with the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5.

WebLogic Server 10 supports both Java EE 5 and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 3.0, as well as updated core Web-services technologies and enhancements in the area of security and interoperability with leading proprietary and open-source platforms.

For instance, BEA is touting Interface21's support for WebLogic Server 10. Interface21 Ltd. is the company behind the popular open-source Spring Framework.

BEA and Interface21 partnered last year to use Spring 2.0 as a foundation for several key Java EE 5 components including the Java EE 5 Common Annotations - Java Specification Request (JSR-250 - which includes resource injection and EJB 3 (JSR-220) interception, and are currently working together so that the integration between Spring and WebLogic Server is as seamless as possible, the companies stated.

"By working with BEA, Interface21 has been able to bring the best of open source and commercial software to a rapidly growing joint customer base," said Rod Johnson, CEO of Interface21, Kent, U.K., in a statement. "Our collaboration around the Java EE 5 programming model is the latest example of this. Since our initial 2005 partnership, BEA and Interface21 have made significant strides in integrating Spring and WebLogic. For enterprises combining BEA and Interface21 technologies, Spring integration for WebLogic Server 10 goes to the heart of the server and offers potential for even further enhancements in productivity, testability and power."

Meanwhile, BEA has included its upgraded toolset for the platform, the Eclipse-based BEA Workshop for WebLogic Platform 10, to help developers create applications. WebLogic Server 10 delivers improved clustering, service migration and other uptime and performance enhancements designed to help users increase application availability and decrease downtime, BEA officials said.

In addition to Interface21, BEA Global Management Alliance (GMA) partners such as the Wily Technology Division of CA Inc. are also planning to support the new WebLogic software. The company has already certified CA Wily Introscope, its Web application performance management solution, on WebLogic Server 10.

"WebLogic Server 10 is designed to help organizations simplify development, improve productivity and ensure the reliability of their applications," said Mike Malloy, chief marketing officer and general manager of products at CA's Wily Division, in a statement.

And BEA has been working closely with Hewlett-Packard Co. so that WebLogic Server, when paired with HP Integrity servers, delivers a strong hardware and software combination, BEA officials said.

Meanwhile, Sun Microsystems Inc.'s GlassFish and SAP AG's NetWeaver application servers also support Java EE 5.
