Motorola unveils home telecom hub device
January 3, 2006Motorola Tuesday unveiled a new access device that serves as a hub for wireless and standard telephones used in the home.
The Residential Seamless Mobility Gateway includes a wireless access point, router and Voice over Internet Protocol adapter that will host standard phones, Internet access and a hot spot for cell phones.
The result will be, among other things, improved ability to use a single number for both landline and cell phones. The RSG will automatically route an incoming call to the appropriate phone, which will help users conserve their monthly wireless minutes allotments.
"The product eliminates the hassle of finding a good reception zone in the home, and of managing separate bills and individual calling plans," Motorola summed up in a release. "Consumers can simply dial a number, and the intelligence in the gateway will automatically route the call to the best available network or service option."
The RSG product line was introduced in the run-up to the big Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas later this week.
