Verizon debuts device for Windows Mobile 5

Verizon is offering its first wireless device that utilizes the latest-generation mobile system from Windows Mobile.

The XV6700 was developed by UTStarcom and provides users of Verizon's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network with access to familiar Windows features such as Outlook and Excel. Verizon offers wireless broadband in much of the United States.

"We believe the XV6700 is truly an achievement in design and technology innovation," said Philip Christopher, president of UTStarcom Personal Communications. "The unit was developed to include all the business applications and meet the personal demands of busy executives in a personal communications device."

The device, which was unveiled Wednesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, retails for $299 and will hit the shelves Jan. 19.
