Consumer Electronics Show opens in Vegas
The annual Consumer Electronics Show opens in Las Vegas Thursday to give the public its first look at scores of cutting-edge technology products.
More than 2,500 exhibitors will be on hand representing more than 30 different product areas.
The show is one of the more important trade shows in the world, with sometimes-dazzling innovations making their debut with the public and news media as they arrive on store shelves.
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates delivered the keynote address at Wednesday night's opening gala. Gates outlined Microsoft's new products in the home-entertainment market, such as the Urge music service.
Gates also briefed the crowd on Vista, the first upgrade to the Windows operating system in some five years. Vista includes enhancements to the Windows Media Center and an improved tool bar.
