Briefs: Uniden, 8x8 offer home VoIP package

January 6, 2006

Uniden America and 8x8 unveiled a new Voice over Internet Protocol package that can hook up an entire household to Internet telephony.

The $130 Uniden UIP 165P system allows users to link up to 10 phones to a wireless base station with distinctive rings and transfer capability.

Uniden had the system on display Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sales reps there said the system will make it easier for consumers to make a seamless transfer from landlines to VoIP.

The UIP 165P is a 5.8 Gigahertz, Packet8-enabled DSS cordless system that is compatible with 8x8's Packet8 Internet Phone Service, which offers unlimited calling in North America for $20 per month.
