Be On the Alert for VA Tech Phishing

April 22, 2007

Phishers will stop at nothing and they're gearing up to rip you off. Watch out for fake calls for help.

It happened with Hurricane Katrina and it's likely to happen with the shootings at Virginia Tech. Unscrupulous people will attempt to con those trying to help.

Hundreds of domain names have already been reserved that allude to the events. Examples include:

-- vatechshooting.com
-- vtmassacre.net
-- vtmurders.com
-- vatechrampage.com
-- virginiatechmurders.us
-- hokieshootings.com

All are, of course, registered using an anonymity service.

If you want to help the victims the university has set up a fund at this address:
http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php .
