Microsoft Releases Office 2007 File Converter for Mac

Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (Mac BU) made available today a download that will give Apple users the ability to work with Office 2007's new file formats.

Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (Mac BU) made available today a download that will give Apple users the ability to work with Office 2007's new file formats. The download is meant to serve Apple users during the delta between last January's release of Office 2007 for Windows and the upcoming release of Office 2008 for the Mac, set for the second half of this year.

The Word convertor, available for download through Microsoft's Mactopia site , converts .docx files to .rtf and lets users open read-only versions of Office Open XML files. Users can either convert files individually or as a batch. Drag-and-drop updates to the app for PowerPoint and Excel will be available this summer.

When Office 2008 is released, later in the year, Mactopia will offer an Office Open XML converter for the suite. Six to eight weeks after the release of the suite, a final converter for Office 2004 will be made available.
