Shark cartilage capsules are recalled
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced the recall of shark cartilage capsules because of possible contamination with salmonella.
The capsules, distributed under various brand names, were manufactured by NBTY Inc. of Bohemia, N.Y., and sold nationwide by mail order, over the Internet and in retail stores.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The recalled capsules were sold under the brand names Puritan's Pride, Good and Natural, Nature's Bounty, Natural Wealth, Physiologics, Rexall Sundown, and Vitamin World.
