Briefs: Hutchinson completes India mobile buy

Hutchinson's acquisition of India's BPL Mobile Cellular has been completed, it was announced Tuesday.
BPL Mobile Cellular operates in three Indian license areas and gives Hong Kong-based Hutchinson Telecom a firmer foothold in the booming India market.

"We remain confident in the growth opportunities in India, and we will continue to invest to position ourselves as a major provider of mobile telecommunications services," Hutchinson Telecom CEO Dennis Lui said in a written statement.

The joint venture is called Hutchinson Essar and was formed by Hutchinson and partner Essar Teleholdings Ltd.

Hutchinson Essar now operates in 16 "circle" territories, including all metro circles.
