The experiment shown in this image helps Sandia scientists understand the hazards associated with an unintended release of hydrogen. It shows the flame that emerges after a high-pressure jet of hydrogen is released toward a wall made of cinder block. The radiated heat flux emanating from the flames, when analyzed and measured, helps researchers evaluate the effectiveness of a barrier wall in mitigating the risks of hydrogen releases in a dispensing station setting.
