Pioneering heart doctor Michael DeBakey dead at 99

Heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey of Houston addresses the press after returning from Egypt where he performed surgery on the deposed Shah of Iran. DeBakey said in this Thursday on April 3, 1980 file photo taken in Houston that the Shah was quite ill, but that the operation was a complete success. DeBakey, the world-famous cardiovascular surgeon who pioneered such now-common procedures as bypass surgery and invented a host of devices to help heart patients, died Friday night July 11, 2008 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, officials announced.
