'Engineering Careers for the Next Generation,' Nov. 18

In the fast-changing world of globalization with its fast-evolving technologies, the nature and responsibilities of an engineer's role are constantly reshaping. For engineers on the cusp of graduation, preparing for this can be a daunting task. Engineers increasingly work in very non-traditional team structures represented by different disciplines and expertise. Rapidly changing technologies and time-to-market pressures have also tremendously influenced the roles and responsibilities in engineering careers.

With that in mind, the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) North Jersey Chapter and Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) will be hosting an event at Stevens Institute of Technology, "Engineering Careers for the Next Generation."

The "Engineering Careers for the Next Generation" panel and networking session will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 3:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the 4th-Floor Bissinger Room of Stevens' Wesley J. Howe Center on the Hoboken campus. Refreshments will be served.

A question and answer session, moderated by Dr. Rashmi Jain, will be held with industry experts and Stevens alumni including Kate Duncan, Priyanka Shitole, Peter Pupalaikis, William Andrews and others.

The evening will end with a chance for audience members to network with program participants.

This event is geared at engineering graduates and professionals of all disciplines highlighting the strengths and challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the opportunity to network with fellow members and professionals of both organizations.

Chris Ferreri, a Managing Director at ICAP, is the scheduled keynote speaker.

Ferreri has been in the Inter Dealer Broker space for more than 25 years. ICAP is the world's largest inter-dealer broker with an average daily transaction volume in excess of $2.3 trillion, more than 50 percent of which is electronic.

Ferreri received his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1977, and is the Chair of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Interdealer Broker Advisory Committee, Chairman of The Wholesale Markets Brokers' Association, Americas, and has represented the industry at conferences ranging in topics from business strategies, technology and regulatory concerns. He is also a lecturer and mentor with Columbia University's EMITM program and a member of the

Advisory Board for Stevens' School of Systems and Enterprises.

"As the faculty advisor to the Stevens INCOSE Student Chapter, I am very pleased that we are increasingly trying to organize joint events with other professional societies to facilitate such interdisciplinary interaction so that our graduates get the opportunity to understand the changing nature of next generation engineering careers," said Dr. Jain, an Associate Professor of Systems Engineering at Stevens.
